Saint Tropez Polo Cup, July 2012
Pro-Alvear Charity Tournament
Polo match, cocktails, dinner, auction and dancing
260 guests flew in from around the World to watch this year’s Pro Alvear Cup, now in its seventh year at the Polo Club St Tropez. Four teams battled it out to win the prestigious cup with two teams, Camino Real & Corlette victoriously sharing the winner’s podium. Guests were welcomed with a MUMM champagne reception, followed by a delicious dinner of the wild vegetable risotto and sea bass. The Gypsy Queens had guests dancing on the tables, only to be momentarily hushed for Sotheby’s co-chairman Harry Dalmeny, who chaired the fiercely competitive auction. With amazing prizes such as a couture Issa dress, Hublot ‘Chukker Bang’ watch and a week’s stay in Goldeneye Villa in Barbados, it is little wonder the auction raised £180,000 for the Argentinean children’s charity. Guests danced the evening away to Cuckoo Club’s DJ Bas.
Lady Godiva
The Pro Alvear lived up to its annual Lady Godiva tradition (the moment before the final chukka when a beautiful girl rides bareback on a grey horse bringing luck to the finalists). This year it was Jenna Courtin-Clarins dressed in Issa, Meli Melo bag and Corlette gloves.
The guests list included Princess Beatrice York, Amanda Ferry, Amanda Crossley, Arthur De Soultrait, Astrid Harbord, Daniella Helayal, Donna Air, Fiorina Benveniste Schuler, Jenna Courtin-Clarins, Martha Ward, Princess Florence Von Preussen, Sophia Hesketh, Princess Maria Anunciata Liechtenstein, Astrid Liechtenstein and Violet Von Westenholz.
Pro Alvear
The Saint Tropez Polo Trophy raises funds for Fundación Pro Alvear, which supports the educational, social and economic development of the Argentinean Pampas region. The charity was founded more than 8 years ago and continues to support initiatives that include several IT community centers, science Laboratories sport and music academies, large-scale organic vegetable gardens and major forest regeneration projects. These projects are designed to combat poverty and protect hundreds of children in a beautiful and far away part of the world.
Polo Club Saint Tropez
The Polo Club Saint Tropez is totally unique; a peaceful and enchanting retreat. Located in Gassin, one of the most beautiful listed villages of France, nestled between Saint Tropez and the languishing beaches of Pampelonne, the Polo Club Saint Tropez have attracted the world’s best players since 1998 thanks to the dedication of the Polo Club Saint Tropez’s president, Corinne Schuler.
